What information will Compassion in World Farming collect about me?

When you interact with Compassion on this website, or via our other websites (eg, www.ciwf.org), we may receive and retain personal information about you. This can consist of information such as your name, email address, postal address, telephone number, bank account details to process donations and whether or not you are a UK tax payer so that we can claim gift aid.

By submitting your details, where relevant, you enable Compassion to campaign for improvements in the lives of farm animals, raise funds and provide you with the services or information you select. Where applicable, we may share your information with sub-contractors and other suppliers we use for these purposes. For example, companies who process donations on our behalf, or host advertisements about our work. Any information will be shared securely and solely for the purpose(s) specified by Compassion. We will retain your details for as long as is necessary for these purposes.

How will Compassion in World Farming use the information you collect about me?

It is Compassion’s policy never to pass on your personal details to other organisations for their use, except when we have your express permission or when the law requires it. We may use your personal information in the following ways:

• to respond to any correspondence you enter into with us;
• for “service administration purposes” – which means processing, and contacting you about, any donations you have made, or providing you with information you have signed up for;
• for campaigning purposes – where you have signed a petition or otherwise taken action, your details may be sent to the campaign target, or an email sent on your behalf, as indicated when you took action;
• for internal record keeping;
• for research into ways we can improve our campaigning, fundraising and our service to supporters. We may also use information provided by you and others, in conjunction with data held by our suppliers, to enable us to gain a better understanding and insight into our supporters (for example, to understand more about the age-range of our supporters). This is to help us grow the movement against factory farming and long distance live transport by finding new audiences who have similar interests or characteristics. Where any research requires your direct involvement, participation will always be optional;
• for marketing (campaigning and fundraising) purposes:
  • we will only contact you for marketing purposes by email or other electronic message if you have agreed to be contacted in this way or, where you have made a donation by text, you have not opted out of receiving further information;
  • we may contact you by post if you have provided your postal address and have not told us that you do not wish to be contacted in this way;
  • we may contact you via social media advertising, unless you have told us that you do not wish to be contacted in this way and the information we hold about you enables us to prevent such advertising;
  • we will only contact you by telephone if we have your express permission.

Under the Data Protection Act 1998 you also have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected. A small fee will be payable, and we require you to prove your identity with two pieces of approved identification. Please address such requests to the Data Protection Officer at the above address.

How does Compassion in World Farming use ‘cookies’?
